[BatRep] Apoc - The Defense of CH22 - Chapter 1

The Defense of CH22
"Leave the gates to my Battle Brothers, and we shall support you on the flanks." The Raven Guard Captain gave what thought he had on the matter to the Imperial Logistics Officer. "Tell your Colonel that the longer the greenskins stay out of your walls, the longer we will have to flush the Orks towards our killteams and end their foolish assault. "As you command my lord. We have employed our Heavy Weapons within the Communications and Anti-Air bunkers, but what of the gatehouses?" "The Gatehouses will be held by our Devastators and our own Heavy Weaponry.

[BatRep] Apoc - The Defense of CH22 - Prologue

The private ran. He ran faster than he could've imagined possible. When sentries stepped forward to challenge his intentions he waved the piece of paper in his hands at them, "There's no time!! Colonel Xiev needs to see what I have here in my hand, lest we all die should I be any later than is necessary!" He finally made his way to the Colonel's strategium. "Sir! Our scout forces on the ground have confirmed a large wave of Greenskins headed this way, larger than we have ever seen before, enough of the foul mutants to to seem like a sea of green."

Night Hawks Bike Squad #2

I finished my second squad of bikers so now I can play a legal army.  I've got a command squad on bikes and a dreadnought on the painting bench now.  I had a bit of trouble with the eyes on these guys but that's just because I need a new brush I think.  I'll have to get one for the next squad.  I have a hard time not wanting to put land speeders in the army but typhoons really rack up the points quick.  It seems with bikes I'm always wishing I had more points.  I think a hybrid army would work better with just a couple bike squads instead of going all bike (I've been burned by not being able to get into ruins and upper levels.  Oh well.  Pictures and progress.

Space Marine Captain on Jetbike

I finished painting my Captain on bike and wanted to share.  Not much to say really, just look at him fly!  I now have an HQ and 2 troops choices painted so it's a 'legal bike army'.  I used him in a 500 point demo game with a friend but didn't but him any special weapons.  Boy is it a waste of points to have this guy roam around without a power weapon of some sort.

Wolf Priest in Terminator Armour (Painted)

I finished painting my wolf priest today.  I'm happy with how he turned out.  Quite a bit darker than my normal space wolves but still in the same style so he should fit right in.  I didn't go with a true black but painted him with Charadon Granite and 3 washes of badab black.    The highlights were dulled a lot in the photos but there is adeptus battlegrey on there I assure you :)  The eyes were a pain to get to and I restarted them literally 10 times.  I'm not happy with them now but I got tired of repainting them.  I really need to buy new paint brushes is the problem.  My detail brush is probably four years old at this point (still the blue handled GW one).

Apocalypse Narrative Mission

I put this narrative apocalypse rule set together for Friday night.  It will be using my new wall set from WarMill.  I can't say if it is balanced at all but it should show that narrative games are easy to come up with and have a few beers over.  I've played games using more points but keeping the points low and barring a lot of super heavies lets far more of my buddies play (this will be 3 per side) who have smaller forces and lets them only take 4-5 hours.

Wolf Priest Terminator Conversion

I was inspired this weekend to make a wolf priest.  I forget why though!  I took a chaos terminator combi melta and cut off the strange symbols.  The chaos gloves and such will look good as my 13th-ish style too.  The giant chainblade is the 'Fang of Morkai' which can messily extract progenoid gland.  The crozeus is made from a power maul shaft with a wolf standard? bit in place of the head.  I modelled a new helmet from him out of a genestealer skull.  I had to cut the back of it down a lot so that it would fit into the armour and not protrude oddly.  If you look at the feet closely you can see where I have added 2mm of plasticard to give him more height as I have with all of my terminators.

Starting Epic

I've decided to start assembling an Epic army.  I saw a post mentioning epic and the author had a very pretty black templar army.   And it was huge!  I looked at it and realized I could have entire companies of marines on the table in a manageable time limit.  I'm still going to build a full crimson fist company but the Epic one may get done a bit faster.  The image on the left is the actual army I just won on ebay.  I'll have to paint strip some of it but otherwise I think it's an excellent starting point.  I really can't tell from the photo what's there but 10+ rhinos, some land raiders and all of the infantry I could want should be a nice start.  I also won 6 vindicators too.

[BatRep] Nids vs Bike Army 1000 Points

I just finished a 1000 point game with my Night Hawks Space Marine Biker Army (well what I made of it today).  On the left you can see what I took.  It consisted of 2x 5man bike squads with no upgrades, a captain with relic blade, storm shield and artificer armour, 2 speeder storms with 5 CCW scouts per and 2 land speeder typhoons.  My opponent played his girlfriend's tyranids which had 3 squads of gene stealers, two gaunt squads, a warrior brood, a carnifex and a hive tyrant.  We rolled bases and whatever the 12" deployment is.

Marble Pillar PIP

I watched a bunch of tutorial videos and scoured the internet for something that I liked and thought I could replicate.  Here's the fruits of the evening's labour.  It will still need a gloss varnish to really complete it but I think I'm content with it.  I have to work on the slate a bit more but otherwise I think it will look good all buffed up. To get the look I primed it black, layered on chaos black and then sponged charadon granite and adeptus battle grey.  After that I drew lines with astronomicon grey very watered down so that it would thin itself.  I touched it up with another thinner coat after followed by straight skull white.

Space Marine Jetbike Captain PIP

I'm in the middle of painting up my biker captain and a mail order came in with a new base I was going to use for Pedro Kantor.  Problem was he was overwhelmed by the size of the base.  I broke the biker captain off of his boring base and affixed him to this one and it's far more fitting of an HQ.  I think I'm going to try and paint the pillar in marble to match a few tutorials I've seen so I hope it works.  The bike is magnetized to the base so I can remove it for painting (and probably storage).

Cruorian War Beast (Painted)

Cruorian War Beast (Xenos Minoris)Standing on four long legs, each ending in thick claws, and with fur as red as fresh-spilled blood, a Cruorian war beast presents a frightening aspect. Short spikes protect the head, neck, and spine, although from what one can only hazard a guess. The forefeet have opposable thumbs, and it’s possible the Cruorians are slightly more intelligent than most think – they’ve been witnessed using crude melee weapons for example. War beasts tend to open their hunts (or a battle) with a chorus of nerve-wracking howls, eventually reaching a crescendo right before they charge. Theye are utterly merciless, and take no prisoners. In fact, some go so far as to eat the slain even before the fighting is over.

Space Hulk Terminator Librarian

Next up is the only Space Hulk model I actually painted.  I needed a librarian for 40k and I was going to use this guy on a 40 mm base but after realizing I'd never actually play space hulk I just sold the whole game.  There was nothing wrong with the game but when I do manage to get together with another nerd I'd rather place a real game.  Anyway I didn't like the face so I carved it out and added a true helmet.  This model is pretty sweet and is probably my favourite version of a terminator librarian.  Too bad you can't buy them seperate for any reasonable amount of coin.

Night Hawks Bike Squad

I finished my first space marine bike squad after like 3 weeks of working on it.  It was really really slow going and I just wasn't motivated.  Not that I don't like how they turned out, there is juts a whole lot of model here to paint.  If you think about sheer surface area there must be 2-3 times that of doing just a regular marine so it was pretty daunting.  Originally I had 11 bikes on my desk but I dropped down to just doing 6 so that it seemed more manageable.

So the wife says...

So I'm listening to the Prospero Burns audiobook while painting and the misses is sitting at her desk beside me.
As the story goes on it mentions Leman Russ and she says 'Why is that guy named after a tank.'
To which I reply 'The tank is named after the guy'.
Shocked she says 'How can a tank from world war II be named after a guy from your nerd stories?'
As I start laughing she realizes that she's just heard my friends and I mention it a couple times that she passively learned the name.  Never wanting to admit she learned some nerd terms she assumed it was a real tank from WWII.

Anyway I thought it was pretty funny and I'm sure everyone who is overly committed to the hobby has significant others who pick up tidbits of information without knowing it.   Please Share!

Chapter House Storm Raven Kit Review

I bought a storm raven a few weeks ago and ordered the Chapter House true-scale kit to go with it.  Once they both arrived I started to put it together.  There wasn't any warping and no flashing issues with the kit but the bottom plate did have some jagged edges where the sprue had been (I assume) snapped off.  Minor issue and you can't really tell since you don't look bottom up on the model.

Scratch Built Warhound Titan

I thought I'd share this project I made a few years back.  I think this was my first scratch build.  I've seen SO many online since then that are amazing and put mine to shame.  It was a great learning experience though and you have to start somewhere.  The plans you can find online for this are amazing and will make it very easy to make your own or to expand on with a bit more detail.  The only innovative thing I really did was use old mage knight bases as attachment points for the arms which allowed them to rotate and be interchangeable.
