Space Marine Jetbike Captain PIP

I'm in the middle of painting up my biker captain and a mail order came in with a new base I was going to use for Pedro Kantor.  Problem was he was overwhelmed by the size of the base.  I broke the biker captain off of his boring base and affixed him to this one and it's far more fitting of an HQ.  I think I'm going to try and paint the pillar in marble to match a few tutorials I've seen so I hope it works.  The bike is magnetized to the base so I can remove it for painting (and probably storage).

This tutorial looks really good http://hot-lead.org/advance/texturing_marble.htm
I think the second one looks a bit nicer but looks harder so I'll have to see if it works.  If not I'll revert to the sponge version.  To not outshadow the bike (which will end up pretty subued in colour) I'm going to try a dark black/grey marble.  If anyone has any further suggestions please let me know.

  1. I really like it!
Where did you get the eagle heads for the backpack?

    1. They're shaved off from the ravenwing tail fins (those long slender wing things that stick out of the back of the bike). I hope they don't look too slender on the bike.

  2. I really like them. I have been trying to do my honor guard with the Commanders backpack with the eagle heads on them but when I priced the bits at 3.oo a pop for 10 men = 30.00 just on backpacks...- I decided it was not that important. This I can do. 8)

    Thanks!

    1. Yeah that's way too pricey. The bit I used is pretty common (I must have 40) so you shouldn't have trouble finding them. Costs definately add up on conversions when EVERY model needs one. I was looking at shoulder pads for a crimson fist chapter (both sides) and at a dollar a piece I had to come up with an alternate method...
