Learning to Cast

I just picked up this starter kit from Smooth-on.  Hopefully it is pretty straight forward.  The gent at the shop said it's all pretty straight forward and I was suprised to read that nothing in the box causes cancer in California.  Sadly I'm not in California. . .  (we used to joke that everything caused cancer in Cali since every label I ever saw said the product did).

Anyway I have a lot of small bits and pieces that I'd like to try this out on (not for resale of course).  I'm curious how well it will work on 3 dimensional things.   I'll have to watch some videos first.

Space Wolves Arjac Rockfist

So having found myself with a Loganwing army and a land raider, I was curious why in an army dominated by Wolf Guard I hadn't yet made the special upgrade character.  Looking at my bits box, then back to a bits order in progress, I ordered a terminator body for about the cost of a paint pot.  I present my Arjac Rockfist.

Space Wolves Fellblade / Landraider - Complete!

I'm done painting her! I still haveto add some powder to the main gun but I think everything else is finished. It gets dark here at 4:30 pm so by the time I am home from work I can't take photos except by desk lamp. It's making the colours show up wonky; the first picture shows the colour in its truest form. I had a real time trying to decide where to put gold on this model without it looking overdone. I should also point out that the dirt on the tracks and skirting isn't as bright as it looks in the pictures. My camera wasn't being nice.

Tarkonis IV Platoon Command Squad

Here's my Platoon Command Squad.  I've been paying extra care to try and put eyes on every guardsman in this army. It's quite a pain in the butt but definitely adds a lot of depth. One problem I do have though is I think my average time spent per model has risen quite considerably, probably 1-2 hours or so now although I paint in bulk. A squad of 10 likely takes 15 hours or so. Not that my painting is the best in the world by a long shot but it definitely disuades me from beginning new squads before any paint hits them.

It's hard to tell, but I put hazard strips on the flanges holding the compressed gas and prometheum tanks to their backs. It got a bit washed out with the various washes but maybe a subdued effect is better?

Space Wolves Fellblade / Landraider WIP 4

I'm nearing the end of painting this guy.  I took a quick shot to show where it is currently at.  I still have to sponge it, finish the tracks and then cover the bottom with dried mud.  The top is a tad plain but I didn't really want to go overboard on bits and colour.  A bit more work after an evening or two and I should have this finished by the end of the week.  Maybe it will even hit the table as a painted land raider on Thursday.

Tzeentch Obliterators

Here's a sneak peak of some obliterators I wanted to put together to run with my Daemon Princes.  I wanted them to take on the appearance of Tzeentch sorcerers hence the open hand for a fireball.  I've since painted them with some blue (a bit too blue) so they may be stripped.  I'm not sure.  They've been put on the backburner for now but I still liked mondelling them. . .

Space Wolves Fellblade / Landraider WIP 3

I've moved the longfang over. He looked a bit unsteady where he was and now has someone to talk to without yelling over the vox. I doubt that cannon is loud anyway. I just love the image of soldiers clammoring over the top of the tank riding into battle, or providing covering fire as the terminators inside run out into the battle.

Tzeench Daemon Prince Zi'Grd

Here's my second Daemon Prince

I took the same base model of course but I wanted him to have a giant weapon and hated the stupid middle finger that he was giving (with both hands!). So I cut off a significant portion of his middle fingers (I'm not a puritan; but the model just looked dumb). I cut all of the fingers off of the right hand and reattached and green stuffed them to hold the axe. I also wanted him to look suitably magic so he's holding a ball of energy. I'm going to do something similar on the oblits.

On second thought the middle fingers are still huge; I did trim them, they're just so big.

Tzeench Daemon Prince Xo'Mrkl

I really wanted to have a daemon prince ever since I started the hobby. After looking through a lot of online images months back I decided that I needed something to make a small unique force that I could add to my existing marines. I've gone down a road where I've sold off all of my xenos and have a large collection of marines and guard now. I've also sold off a lot of my old painting that was sub-par to my current level and worked toward having multiple 'small' armies that can work together and mix and match.

Space Wolves Fellblade / Landraider WIP 2

I kept working on this through the night and have made enough progress to field it this evening in a game.  Here she is in 'land raider conformation'.  I've had some feedback on the shoulder mounted longfang looking out of place and I think it's wearing on me.  I really like the more standard one overhanging on the ramp though.  Maybe if both were positioned there?

Space Wolves Fellblade / Landraider WIP

Here's a WIP of a 'Fellblade' that I am in the progress of making from a shadowsword kit.  I'm planning to use the Banehammer rules with the modification that the sponsons are TL lascannons and models cannot shoot from it.  It shouldn't change the rules too much as it was treated as open topped for disembarking originally.

Loganwing Showcase

I've never really liked terminators but after spying a few of the bits and pieces and scoping ideas for this army I couldn't wait. This was the first army I've purchased as a whole and set out to build with an end goal in mind (of 8+ armies in 4 years). My local GW plays 1250 point games so I set out to build a Logan Wing that would easily fit that points level.

Macharius Scratch Build Part 5

Here is the primed macharius with an almost complete turret. I've since finished the turret and put a base coat on with my airbrush. Graveyard earth does not go very far when priming a tank this large, 2 leman russ and 5 chimeras with 3 coats. I lost a lot of steam on finishing them by biting off such a large batch at once. I also haven't decided what to do with them since I sort of want to air brush a camo on them that is far more subtle than normal. I'm wondering if graveyard earth with some khemri stripes would be ok. I also don't want to mask anything so if I put my air brush on narrow and just make patterns would that look ok? Feathered edges I know...  Right now the tank company has been sitting at my paint station (laundary machine) for 3 months

13th Company Rune Priest (Scibor)

Here's my rune priest that runs at the head of my Space Wolves army. He's made with the celtic warrior body from Scibor and GW parts. The terminator head fit strangely in the neck socket so I padded it with greenstuff to make a fur scarf. I crafted a psycic hood out of a space marine pauldron (I know they don't have those rules but it made the model look better). . .

Scibor Custodes Scale Comparison

My Scibor models and my Maxmini shoulder pads came in yesterday.  I had to order some arms to attach the shield.  I'm hoping that the GK terminator left arm will work.

Commissar Orlav

I traded for this commisar for something very inexpensive or else I would have attempted to convert one. I wasn't a big fan of the all black outfit as it didn't seem very regimented to me. I painted him up in the fatigues of the line soldiers. I think all of the extra adornments speak for themselves as to his statures. The bolter aimed at your face when you're given an order also helps to alleviate any misunderstandings that may occur from his uniform not being all black.

Primaris Psyker for Dark Heresy

I finially got my primaris psyker model in the mail to replace the feral looking psyker I'd been using previously.  As my character in the game has grown and is about to become a Templar Calix I figured his tattered garbage clothing should be replaced with something more fitting.  The model has a force staff and a holstered pistol therefore he will be WYSIWYG throughout the campaign!

MK1 Hover Rhino

The models I've ordered for my Custodes haven't come in yet so I'm not sure on their scale.  Anyway if they turn out to need a rhino, I have just the thing!
