Kingdom Death - Phoenix Painted!

I'm done with my phoenix!  Well mostly;  I need to add some coloured coral to the bottom to make it look like he's nesting but I'm waiting on that to show up (friend has some).  Anyway on to all of the pretty pictures!  This evil monster can control time, aging and rejuvenating its enemies at will.  It also has a nasty habit of dropping turds on everyone.  Lots of creepy pustules and hands in the armpits and all over the place. These apparently are parasitic hands which is why so many of the monsters in this game have them growing all over them.  Such a messed up universe!

Kingdom Death - Phoenix WIP 3

Skin tones being worked on.  I went with a pale flesh tone to not contrast overly with the bright wings.  It was also a bit hard to discern where the beak stopped so I just drybrushed bone and black up from the tip until I was satisfied.

Kingdom Death - Phoenix WIP 2

Once all of the wash dried, I went back and dry brushed the textures back into the feathers.  I basically took the same colours (blood red, blazing orange and golden yellow) followed by skull white I'd used on the base coat, and dry brushed 'one up' toward the darkest red.  Next up, flesh tones.

Kingdom Death - Phoenix WIP1

The start of the great phoenix!Originally I had thought I'd do some sort of tropical bird colouring but after googling images, the real birds looked 'fake' so I couldn't help but think my paint job would too.  I'd also seen a few dark painted versions of the phoenix that looked like ravens.  While the world is supposed to be 'dark' I thought it was a missed opportunity for me to experiment with some cooler colours.  So I ultimately fell back on the namesake and went with a flaming colour scheme.

Kingdom Death - Leather Armour Guy painted

Here's the first leather armour figure from Kingdom Death for our game.  Leather armour is really good, and it synergizes well as a tank set.  On top of that, Zanbato (the sword) is just super good :) The leather face mask makes him look pretty creepy though.

Star Wars Armada Rogues and Villains Painted

I picked up the Rogues and Villains pack for Star Wars Armada.  I split it and gave the rebel scum to my buddy.  Now the strange thing was FFG packed the wrong ships in mine so while everything else was correct, I didn't get an IG88, but two firesprays.  This is actually pretty sweet since I wanted more than one of those (they're pretty good I think).  So all I did (and you can see it on the bottom right of this image) is paint a six on the IG88 dial so it matched hit points properly haha.  On the other plus, FFG sent me the proper little ship as a replacement once I sent in some pictures of the box contents.  I'll have to paint that eventually.

Kingdom Death - Kara Black Painted

I don't think a model could get much more dynamic than this!  I'm so used to space marines haha.  Anyway pretty simple paint job, I'm quite happy with the tanned skin tone.  There's a few white specs that are leftover from the cloth drybrushing, but I can't physically see them when I hold it in front of my face 6 inches.  Maybe the spray varnish melted them :)
