I've painted hundreds of models by now and I've always done the basing after the model was painted. I decided recently that this was not the most time effective method so I'm doing my basing in bulk and then transfering the painted models over to them once they're painted. Doing them like this made it WAY faster (or at least I'll pretend as much). Without the feet being attached I could do most of it with a large tank brush. It also has the added bonus of models being complete when the 'model' is complete and not needing to spend additional time afterward finishing up the bases (if that makes sense)

So I guess this is my hobby blog and that means more than just 40k despite that being my prime past time. Since it's spring and we've had some issues with a family dog digging holes when it visits, I figured I'd make a raise and more difficult obstacle for the dog. The back panels aren't single solid planks as I may have had a slight measurement issue (I'm definitely no carpenter) and had to improvise to avoid buying more cedar. Anyway there are hundreds of how-to posts on these things so I won't go into it. Just sharing my 'break' from miniatures to use some bigger tools. Maybe tomorrow I'll go look for some topsoil.

My devastator marines were dying far too quickly so I painted 5 bolter carriers. These guys have some devastator should pads that I crudely carved out of green stuff and cast. Also you may notice these are really old metal models that I've 'updated' with modern packs, arms, guns and shoulders. I went out of my way to magnetise the bolters as well so that if I want to swap them into special weapons and run them as havoks I'll be able to.

I wanted to thank everyone that has visited my site over the last 3 years. You've pushed it to over 100,000 views. Even without feedback, just getting viewers is motivation to keep posting stuff which in turn is motivation to keep painting! My celebratory photo is a scene from a narrative mission I did a month ago and haven't found time to write up yet. Behold, the Emerald Fist traitors approaching Outpost 3-Alpha-6 via the Avenue of Prosperity, hastily defended by the Raven Guard.

Here's my last assembly batch. Twenty tactical marines, 5 bolter guys for my devs, a terminator squad with chainfists and a contemptor. This fills out a bunch more of my company (25% more to be exact) and adds some super heavy killers. I run chainfist terminators in apocalypse in a flier and they've not let me down yet. Definitely a bit daunting to see this many models ready to be painted. I might stick to smaller batches in the future.

Last night I played a 1500 point game against my friend's Raven Guard. We rolled for random terrain placement, only warlord traits from the codex allowed, no first blood or line breaker and did the dawn of war deployment. We played 6 objectives worth 2 points each and fast attack score (some randomness in mission was used). The image left shows the deployment.
