One of the things I look forward to with the Christmas holidays is the increase in free time I have to sit down and paint. I'm pretty slow since I usually watch tv or movies while I'm painting which is quite distracting. Anyway a few movies later and quite a few episodes of boardwalk empire and I've finished my defiler. Originally the oil drums were a dark mordian blue but I found it contrasted far too strongly with the white and drew the eye to something that wasn't really that important. I decided to address this by muting the colours with a grey-blue and I think it worked. They still stick out as a detail but not THE detail.

I finished my hover rhino today. I figured it was about time that at least one of my plague marine squads had a legit ride that wasn't just gray. The defiler I was working on is getting close to finished as well. It will also work (as designed) for my loyalist forces as a command rhino. The nurgle guys just won't argue with a new ride.

So my Christmas present to myself came in. And doesn't Sepia make it look warm and festive! In the background you can see the plague toads I'm going to use as obliterators/mutilators. I'm currently finishing up the rhino you see here which is scratch built. Anyway I hope everyone gets some nice nerdly presents.

So basically every comment I've read since the images of the new releases have come out are utterly negative. I'm so sick and tired of people whining. If the game is that terrible stop playing and stop trolling the people that do like it. Anyway! I think this model has tons of potential for conversion and I REALLY hope that it is a heavy support choice. Intuition tells me that it should be with the weapons load out pictured and the fact that it would really open up the army list force org for a bike / speeder army. Anyway I have three wish list items; one that it is a heavy support, scouts storms make it to the book, and 3 that they're dedicated. I'd love to model this vengeance up like my other Argonaught speeders and have 7 speeder variants running around while my bike army escorts them. Time will tell. Anyway I think if I hack those wings off and convert the vengeance along the lines of my other speeders that it will end up looking pretty sweet.

I spent 3 hours yesterday doing a 20 minute spray job with my airbrush. The tip had some damage and was just clogging up tons. I think it's been a slow decline to this for a while so I finally went and bought new tips. On the bright side I have the defiler, 10 marines, a rhino and Pedro Kantor base coated and washed. I also took this photo on an Ipad I won and tried to blog with. What a horrendous experience. As a long time PC user I think I was about ready to smash that piece of crap against the floor.

I have a plague hulk that I regrettably haven't painted yet but I still figured he needed a brother. When a really good deal came around for an on-sprue defiler I snagged it quickly and set to work. My buddy had a left over crab leg from an ork conversion and with the current edition and the prime targets for the potential weapons I'm not sure why I'd ever arm this with more than a battle cannon. So here's my nurgle defiler with 3 ccw and a flail! I think that's something around 5 attacks on the charge so he'll be causing some pain after his long walk firing the battle cannon. Which I should note I added from a leman russ since I thought the dragon head looked dumb.

To wrap up my allies painting challenge I finished a 2nd plague marine squad. I'm going to continue attempting to paint 1 squad/unit a month at a minimum and turn these allies into an army. I gave these plague marines an icon from the plague bearer set. No sure I'd ever pay points for it but it looks cool. My next squad will have one too. I also magnetized the melta guns so they can swap out and I'm pretty sure they will usually be plasma guns. I've really found I'm facing a lot of infantry and more specifically 2+ things (meganobs etc.) so these will be a welcome addition. Anyway not much more to say so enjoy the pictures.
