Fortress of Redemption - Painting Complete

My Fortress of Redemption is painted!  I spent a full Saturday and some Sunday painting it during a TV show binge (Suits).  Finishing the marble on the angel statue took the longest time.  This model is so huge! I put a few scouts on it for scale.  I know everyone has seen pictures of this but I can't convey the size with pictures.  It's overwhelming in person.  I painted this up to match the rest of my terrain with the dark brown.  My terrain used to look like a rainbow so this uniform look is much better.  It also helps focus the eye on the 'marble' statue that I tried to replicate.  My wife thinks it looks close enough so I'm happy with that :)

Here's another shot of the tower, the view a filthy xenos would see while charging the imposing angel of death

These little recessed skulls adorn the sides of the bastions and I painted some script and little fists on them for my Emerald Fists.  I can see a little overbleed of gold I'll have to touch up.

Here's the las cannon weapon (obviously don't know what it's called).  The heavy bolters are magnetized so I can put them anywhere on the model (I think 15 or so magnets) including the tower.  You can equip 4 I believe and they can go anywhere.  I wasn't sure where I wanted them so this way they can be moved anywhere I'd like.  I greenstuffed over top of them so they're invisible when not on.

I debated painting the left and right bastion eagles in gold but I liked the idea of the dark brown for uniformity instead of having huge golden forts.  It seemed a bit too pompous for the Emerald Fists.  A few adornments are fine but a golden fort doesn't seem too practical - more the style of the Emperor's Children.

Here's a scout sniper getting his aim!

At the bottom of the tower I added an escape hatch in the off change I want to use the tower by itself as a bastion or something.  This way there's an entrance.  It also handily hides itself behind the central walkway when assembled as the full fortress.

I scraped off all of the dark angels iconography and replaced it with some brass etch so that it fits as an Emerald Fists fort!  No stinky dark angels for me.

    1. haha I wouldn't go that far. The marble parts took me months of procrastinating but ultimately were just some airbrush/wash things. The rest of the model flew by being mostly drybrush and a wash. You can see how lazy and easy way out I went on the remainder. The details I picked out scream 'hey I'm a detail' and don't blend well but for a terrain piece that will ultimately probably get used in one game before I die, I'm happy. It has an imposing place above my display cabinet and I've put a few scouts in it to guard from unwanted toys.

    2. "Hey I'm a Detail" is the secret of mini painting. Paint something really good, its hard for the eyes to pay attention to the lazier parts. It's my creedo!

Good use of it I've found, is to set the tower section on it's side, and it makes a really awesome middle of board LOS blocker.

    3. Fair point! If I ever start playing lots maybe I'll fill in the bottom of the tower so it isn't hollow.

  2. Excellent! Not a fun model to build but very nice to paint. I did one for a fellow BA player many years ago and haven't seen it since hah; if you're interested: http://atticwars40k.blogspot.com/2011/10/blood-angels-fortress-of-redemption.html

The tower/bastion/escape hatch idea is brilliant, consider it borrowed. :) ...and I love the marble!

    1. I'm almost positive I'd found yours on google when I was coming up with a paint scheme and debating whether I would try for a marble on the angels. The amount of effort you put into your paint chipping on this model (which some people might not know is over 2 feet long) is incredible. Well done.
