Lots of random drybrushing on this model. The whole thing was painted with scab red, then drybrushed with blood red. I used flesh wash sprayed on which was a bad idea. It pooled poorly in some areas but I really like the tint it gives it. I drybrushed blood red again after this and then used weathering powder to disguise the pooled flesh wash. I put lots on the wings and sides to streak it and give a sense of movement. I also brushed the techmarine with far more blood red than the rest of the model so that he'd be brighter and stand out a bit. Hard to see on the model but it's there :)

Very nice! The CHS extension kit really makes the Stormraven look much more balanced, and you've done a fantastic job painting it. Great work!
ReplyDeleteYeah it's really disapointing the original kit didn't come that way.
DeleteNice Job,I like that OSL on the plasma. If the spray is looking milky it may be too humid to spray. The only way i have been able to fix this is to wait til it dries, spray on some gloss and then hit it again after that dries with a very thin coat of matte. Krylon clear coats seem to have the least amount of hazing in humidity but even they aren't flawless.
ReplyDeleteHey, I use krylon satin as my first coat, then armoury matte afterward. The satin usually is perfect but you're right probably too thick and too humid.
DeleteThe army painter stuff sucks though. Always fogs/snows. Even with 'perfect' conditions and 15 minutes of can shaking. I've noticed this over three unique cans from different batches. Oh well.
Second on the OSL on the plasma cannon. I'd be interested to hear how that's accomplished on Monday ;) Otherwise I really like this model and the sense of movement really came through.
ReplyDeleteBlood Red is always a weird drybrush result for me. Yours seems to work fine though.
The key to the blood red drybrush is a brown or red wash after to tone down the orange.
