Emerald Fist Fluff Book

I'm reposting my book because it is near and dear to me. It took years to publish this, and I wanted to make sure that people had an opportunity to read it. It's based on an adaptation of the Badab War Campaign, and is the result of 5 games of Warhammer 40k in a long gone edition. These were used to write a recount of 'The Siege of Bruj', a compendium for the background of the traitorous elements of the Emerald Fists; my homebrew chapter.  The results were formatted with photographs of my models and the battles.  Enjoy, it's now a fleshed out 38 page short story which is fully illustrated.

  2. I havent had a chance to do more than just glance through the file yet, but I can tell you I am very impressed, do you have (perhaps hidden away here) any guides or steps to assist others who might want to do something similar?

    1. No sorry, I could walk you through the process through here or email if that worked for you. It's a combination of adobe InDesign (making the page layouts), adobe photoshop (to make image backgrounds transparent), and a plug in for a company called BLURB.

The photoshop part is simple (just googled how to select the background and delete it).

The blurb part is as simple as downloading a plugin for InDesign and hitting upload when you're done.

The InDesign formatting etc. was quite labour intensive since I'd never used it before (but am somewhat savvy) and just watched a lot of youtube tutorials. Once I had the knack for it it wasn't that intense but if you change a word, or a sentence or a layout on one page it obviously has ramifications on the formatting of everything that follows and I started writing the book as we played the games over a span of 3 years. So there were lots of revisions and such that could have been avoided if I'd waited and done the whole thing at once.

My main suggestions aside from the computer part, would be to take way too many photographs. As you're compiling and writing a story, certain images will just seem to fit the story better and not all will turn out. Also, have as many proof readers as you can. If you have a predetermined campaign outlined, that is really the same as creating a story arc so it helps you follow a path and not jump all over the place.

    3. Of course, that's great. If you decide to go down the rabbit hole, by all means ask any other questions you may have.
