More painting on my sicaran. I tried out some heat burn on the barrels with some purple and blue washes. Do ballistic cannons get hot like that? Probably not? I assume the entire barrel would get hot and not just the end but what do I know? I like the look.
I believe the sicaran has two of these.

Mounted on top of it.
I do believe that would generate considerable heat from the exhaust gases at the exit points.
haha I'm sure it makes heat, however I'm not sure where it is generated. Those guns are huge!
DeleteI do a lot of target shooting with shotguns and they generate heat (seemingly) along the entire barrel (easily dissipated with appropriate heat shielding). I imagine the heat must come from the action where the controlled explosion occurs and must travel from the breach up to the muzzle as the gas expands. So I don't think the end would be the only hot part (I obviously haven't ruined my firearms by shooting until they glow red). My gut tells me that the end (where gas expansion occurs) would actually be cooler then the adjacent area where the gas was at a 'constant' pressure. All I think you'd see is carbon scoring, not heat damage.
edit: this youtube video seems to concur with me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGAwrmOapb4
Either way though I think the heat burn looks cool on a model (apparently I chromed my barrels) :)
DeleteWow very good points...I was trying to find an example of a mini gun heat signature, but was having issues with search terms.

End of this video shows the effect of the mini gun by the end of extended firing.
Cool. Yeah you can see the heat quickly generate from right ahead of the action and extend forward toward the end (and the muzzle looks black still).
DeleteSo basically can have fun with it, depending on the type of action you want it to represent! Sounds like a win to me!
DeleteLovely work, man! Really digging the Blood and Skulls sponsons, I am totally going to follow your example on the next Sicarans of my own. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Another plus is it made them way easier to magnetize!
