I finished my first Emerald Fist Land Raider. I like the chapterhouse sponsons now that they're on. Initially I had to do some greenstuff and glue repair on some thinly cast bits which was a pain in the ass. I spoke to Nick with CHS and he said this was identified by a few customers and was remedied with a new mold; sort of unfortunate that it wasn't identified before shipping. I wasn't asking for a replacement though so maybe CHS is good about that. I'm not sure. Anyway I just fixed it (hour or two of work and clean up) and moved on. I really do like the look though. I think I like the forgeworld ones better but the central part which holds the autocannons looks better in the CHS model and is easier to swap weapons out of.I added in the forgeworld rhino doors which fit perfect on this and some forge world etched brass as personal heraldry on the front right recess. This is the Bisark, named after a long dead hero I am sure. I really liked this zoomed in picture showing the sponge effect on the paint chipping. I magnetized the hurricane bolters and the roof plate above the assault cannons so that all of the weapons can swap. I want to be able to use this as the other land raider patterns as I fancy. After I was done I also added a bit of script work on the green parts so they look slightly less flat.
On the top of the model I taped off a heavy support chevron. It was looking far too white and it needed something eye catching. Paired with the rhinos I have (tactical markings) it fits right in with the rest of the chapter. I don't think my next ones will follow the same pattern though. I'm strongly debating either putting a giant skull on it (command) or painting it the inverse colours of this tank. I'm just not sure if a solid emerald green tank will look good with the rest of the cream white. In theory it may sound ok by it's a big gamble for something that might just be an eye sore.
I didn't want to go overboard with engine glow so I just put a blue wash in there for a subtle effect. You never see half of the things on table miniatures anyway so I took it easy. I have a few more photos to share and will also mention I plan to make two more. I have two more sponson sets coming from CHS and have two unbuilt land raiders in the closet. I still need to find some las cannon and heavy bolter bits without paying an arm and a leg. I'm in no rush to get 2 more raiders though as I only have 2 terminator squads and I deepstrike the tactical terminators most of the time. Down the road as my force grows and I get a command squad painted and such, I'll want more transports for apocalypse games. Currently my loyalists have a transport for every squad and I aim to continue with this trend.
