Kingdom Death - Lion Knight - Painted

This model is awesome.  I really enjoyed painting him.  My wife thought I should go with the purple and it does look rather royal.  Also the 'king of the jungle' should have a lot of gold, so he gets some very flashy armour.  The colours for his mane and face were inspired by google photos of lions and his retinue was done with pale flesh and blonde hair to tie into him.  I didn't want anything too stark beyond that.

I can always go back but I left his claws clean.  Any thoughts on bloodying them up?  I don't think it really fits the theme of the pose/retinue on his base.  He looks too statuesque to be dirty...

Kingdom Death - Lion Knight WIP3

Here's the 3 ladies that will go on the Lion Knight's base.  I needed to leave them off to access all of the angles, and I'm not quite sure how I'll seat them either.  Right now just the skin is done, but I'm going to do them blonde, and with purple cloth to tie into the lion colour scheme.

Kingdom Death - Lion Knight WIP2

I've finished the lion knight himself.  I still need to work on the 3 'stage hands' that come with him and will decorate the base further.  Really really happy with how he turned out.  Especially the face.

Kingdom Death - Lion Knight WIP 1

This model is simply awesome.  I really can't say more.  Most of these kingdom death models I feel I'm not doing them justice with the painting. I'm happy with my paint jobs, but some of the inspirational photos I've seen are just incredible.  Anyway, my humble effort here was an attempt to use real lion tones for the fur and hair as opposed to the white lion which is quite albino.  I have more metal work to do before he's done.

Kingdom Death - Messenger of the Spiral Path - Painted

Here's the last of my Kingdom Death promo figures that I'm painting (I still have the First Story lady but am not decided on how to paint her hair yet).  This guy is apparently inspired by "Kamina" from an anime called "Gurren Lagann".  I don't know anything about anime, but am using the same colour scheme.  Sometimes it like being 'told' what colours to use.  It forces me to try different things (like blue hair!).  He's basically 'naked' in terms of armour so I think he will get to play a lot as a survivor as well when they have swords.  He looks pretty tough.  Maybe we should save him for when we have a 'good' sword...

Kingdom Death - Lonely Tree Painted

Here are some better shots of the finished lonely tree, with and without fruit.  The scale is really nice compared to the survivor (and the massive lion).  I'm really happy with how it turned out, and mostly because it adds atmosphere to the table.  I'm going to pick up some 3d pillars as well and work on some more of the terrain eventually because it just feels better when playing instead of using abstract tiles.  I understand the need for tiles in the base game to keep costs down but as an aftermarket thing for us hard cores, terrain is the best!

Kingdom Death - Messenger of Humanity - Painted

To follow up the Messenger of Courage from last week, here's my Messenger of Humanity from Kingdom Death.  He's apparently based on a character called Guts from an anime series "Berserk".  I know absolutely nothing about anime, but I wanted to paint him up similar to the inspiration for the model so went with an all black look.  The black is done with chaos black followed by vallejo dark grey blue, grey highlights and a black wash.  It looks like he's wearing 'lantern armour' from the game so we'll only be using him in suitable situations as a survivor.  He just looks so bad ass compared to the rest of the poor saps.  Next up is the Messenger of the Spiral Path.

Kingdom Death - Lonely Tree WIP 4

Right near the end of the tree, with the foliage and all of the pieces hanging in the tree done.  Just some touch ups, the claws and the stone face remain at this point.
